The Kwara State Government has said it is working aggressively to galvanize mass participation of youths in all sports through the introduction of School Sports Competitions.

The state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hajia Ramata Adesina-Abaya, who stated this during the Sports Monitoring and Sensitization forum held in Kosubosu, Baruten local government area of the state, said government will sensitize the people on the need to provide sports activities and facilities at the local government level.

"This will create the need to reactivate sporting activities and facilities in various local governments in the state", said Adesina-Abaya.

The Commissioner, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Rhoda Ajiboye, stressed the need to revive grassroots sports in the state to provide a template for sports development.

Adesina-Abaya, recalled that grassroots sports were the backbone of sports development in Kwara in the 1960s, regretted that the situation had degenerated due to neglects of grassroots sports, and assured that the state is poised to rejuvenate the sector.
