Group urges love for abondoned children

Date: 2013-08-07

The Society of Intellectuals, an Ilorin based NGO, on Tuesday urged organisations and well-meaning individuals to always show love to the less privileged and abandoned children.

Mr Suraj Olukoga, the Director of Publicity of the group, made the call in Ilorin after donating some items to children at the Kwara Children Reception Centre.

Olukoga advised against stigmatisation as lots of abandoned children were doing great in the society.

While cautioning mothers against abandoning babies, he stressed that only God knows what each child could become.

"Abandoned children are human. We want the society to reckon with them.

"Children at this centre need people's love; they need attention. The society should desist from branding them", he said.

He explained that the group, established 15 years ago, was aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable and less privileged people in the society.

"It has organised seminars and workshops for people on challenging issues. It has assisted widows and indigent students who could not pay their school fees."

Items donated at the centre included detergents, sanitary pads and clothes, among others. (NAN)
