EMIR OF ILORIN ADVISES RELIGIOUS LEADERS TO PREACH UNITY

Date: 2013-08-03

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari, has advised Muslims to use the ongoing Ramadan period to preach unity.

The emir gave the advice in Ilorin on Friday while receiving members of the Committee on Annual Traditional Ramadan Celebration. He also called on religious leaders to desist from preaching what could cause rancour and acrimony among the people.

''You should always operate within the tenets of your religious teachings.''

He said this had become necessary in order to sustain the peace, unity and social economic development of the country.

The traditional ruler contended that the two dominant religions in the country preach peace

''No meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere of chaos and acrimony.

''Our religious leaders should pray and preach more peaceful co-existence", the monarch added.

Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Saheed Alaya, said it had perfected arrangement for a hitch-free end of Ramadan celebration. (NAN)
