A 55-year-old farmer, Unugbai Godwin of No. 2, Tinu Street, Akerebiata Area, Ilorin, Kwara State, has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court for allegedly killing his co-tenant.
The accused was said to have on June 25 fought with the deceased, Mrs. Ramat Abdulkareem after which she gave up the ghost.
The accused was arrested following a report at 'C' Division Police Station, Oja-Oba, Ilorin, by the deceased's husband, Alfa Abdulkareem Sanni, that the accused beat his wife to death.
The complainant stated further that the accused pushed the deceased during a fight, as a result of which she was rushed to Oluwakemi Clinic and Maternity, Ilorin, where she later died.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at State Criminal Intelligence Department (SCID), Ilorin, revealed that the accused committed the offence.
Godwin was arraigned on a one-count charge of Culpable Homicide, contrary to Section 222 of Penal Code Law.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Fatimah Ajape objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
The Judge, Magistrate A.O. Adeniyi upheld the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, until July 16, 2013 when the case would come up for further mention.
