Guide against food wastages, Kwara govt cautions citizens
Residents of Kwara State have been cautioned against food wastages, just as they were told that there were many wallowing in abject poverty.
Speaking during a one-day stakeholder workshop with the theme:"Think, eat, save: Curbing the Culture of food wastage in Kwara State", Commissioner for Environment, Mr Kayode Towoju, expressed the need for the people to be their brother’s keeper, by rationalising their foods and making the remnants available for the needy.
The commissioner also advised people to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
He also called on the stakeholders to provide farmers with technologies that would reduce post harvest food losses so that there could be enough foods for consumption.
Also speaking, the coordinator of the workshop, Ms Angela Okoye, recalled that the celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become one of the main vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourage political attention and action in the area of environment.
The annual event, according to her, provide a vehicle through which the UN environment programme was able to personalise environment issues and enable everyone to realise not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
