Man in court for alleged human sacrifice
The 40-year-old accused of Magaji Compound, Kehinde-Oroki Village, via Igbaja, Kwara State allegedly killed one Okita Sunday of the same village to appease the gods of twins.
The accused, who was suspected of using innocent citizens of the village for sacrifice, allegedly killed the deceased to appease his great grandfather and the founder of their village.
The accused, popularly known as 'Oro masquerade', was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of Penal Code Law, has since been ordered to be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
The long arm of the law caught up with the accused following a report on May 27, 2013 at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Igbaja, Kwara State by the deceased wife, Mrs. Salome Okita that the accused criminally administered native concoction to her husband which caused him stomach ache.
According to the complainant, his condition deteriorated until he later gave up the ghost.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, revealed that the accused along with Alfa Dauda and Alfa Sule (now at large), intentionally administered poisonous concoction on the deceased thereby using him as sacrifice to service their gods of twins.
The FIR stated further that the accused and others at large are members of Oodua Peoples' Congress (OPC) and using the means to terrorize the people of the community and thereby using them for ritual purposes.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Jubrin Al-hassan informed the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing, while effort is ongoing to arrest his accomplices.
He however objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
The Judge, Magistrate I.O. Olawoyin upheld the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, until June 27 when the case will come up for further mention.
