Every child counts: Olohungbebe urges shared responsibility for children's education and upbringing
Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, has urged teachers to diligently implement the "Every Child Counts" initiative, ensuring that no child is overlooked in learning and personal development.
According to a report by Usman Oladimeji of SBS 96.9 FM, Ilorin, the Commissioner made the call on Saturday while speaking on the station's programme, "Omo Mi".
Olohungbebe stressed that raising well-rounded children requires the collective efforts of parents, families, schools, government and the wider society.
"It is not only the responsibility of parents. The family, schools, government, and even social media have roles to play in shaping the future of our children," he said.
Reflecting on changes in education and child upbringing, he noted that although some older practices had shortcomings, many offered valuable lessons for today's parents and educators.
He also expressed concern about the negative influence of social media on children, urging parents, guardians and teachers to guide young people towards responsible and beneficial use of digital platforms.
The Commissioner described a responsible child as one who develops independence, education, knowledge, good character and wisdom and applies these qualities positively.
Highlighting the importance of patience and perseverance, Olohungbebe shared that he sat the JAMB examination eight times before gaining admission to university.
He urged all stakeholders to work together to give every child in Kwara State access to quality education, proper guidance and sound moral upbringing.
