Kwara Police Begin Enforcement of Traffic Laws to Improve Road Safety
The Kwara State Police Command has announced the immediate enforcement of traffic laws and regulations across the state as part of efforts to improve road safety, reduce accidents and restore order on major roads.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered the enforcement exercise in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.
According to the command, the initiative became necessary following the increasing violation of traffic regulations, which has contributed to road crashes, traffic congestion and the loss of lives and property.
The police explained that the operation is designed to promote compliance with traffic laws, encourage orderly use of roads and enhance public safety, stressing that the exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding residents.
The command added that officers deployed for the operation have been directed to conduct themselves professionally and respect the rights of members of the public.
It warned that any police officer found engaging in misconduct or violating traffic regulations during the exercise would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The police urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to obey traffic signs, observe speed limits, maintain valid vehicle documents and refrain from dangerous driving.
The command also appealed for the cooperation of residents, assuring the public of its commitment to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives and property across Kwara State.
