LG Electronics Donates Solar-Powered Borehole and Free Mobile Laundry Station to Ilorin Community
LG Electronics, a global leader in consumer technology, has inaugurated a solar-powered borehole and a free mobile laundry station for the Anfeyin Oja Olokuta community in Ilorin, under its flagship "Life's Good Initiative." This donation marks the 16th borehole LG has provided across Nigeria, reaffirming its dedication to clean water, health, and community development.
The new borehole will supply reliable, year-round access to safe water for thousands of residents, significantly improving daily living conditions. Additionally, the free mobile laundry service, which will be available for three months, aims to promote hygiene and ease domestic chores for families.
LG has also deployed a dedicated service team to provide complimentary maintenance for its gadgets, extending support beyond water access to overall community welfare.
"Access to clean water is a fundamental right, not a privilege," said Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics Nigeria. "Our Life's Good Initiative embodies dignity, health, and hope. We are proud to partner with Anfeyin Olokuta in building a healthier, more sustainable future."
Representing the Kwara State Government, Hon. Abdullah Bata, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed gratitude: "This generous donation is a commendable contribution to our community. The government appreciates LG Electronics' support, and we look forward to more collaborations that benefit our people and economy."
Hon. Bata added, "Water is life. Support from organizations like LG elevates the well-being of our citizens, and we encourage other private sector entities to follow suit in making life better for all."
Speaking through his Permanent Secretary, Dr. Segun Ogunsola, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, commended LG's efforts: "This project exemplifies the power of public-private partnership. Access to clean water and sanitation is essential for healthy, thriving communities. We thank LG for their vision and dedication to investing in our people."
He further noted, "This borehole and support services will transform daily life leading to healthier children, less time spent fetching water, and new economic opportunities. We hope this inspires others to contribute to community development."
The Chairman of Ilorin East Local Government, Garuba Lukmon Agbelere, also expressed appreciation: "LG's generosity gives us more than water and services; it fosters pride and a sense of belonging. This partnership is creating real change, and we are grateful for their ongoing support."
With over 60 million Nigerians still lacking access to basic clean water, initiatives like LG's Life's Good are vital for national progress. By powering boreholes with solar energy, LG ensures sustainability in off-grid areas, setting a new standard for corporate social responsibility in Nigeria. The addition of free laundry services and electronics maintenance demonstrates a holistic approach to community well-being delivering dignity, health, and comfort.
Aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, LG's initiative helps reduce waterborne diseases, supports daily hygiene, and alleviates burdens on vulnerable families. Through these efforts, LG exemplifies how businesses can lead with purpose, fostering stronger, healthier communities and driving progress toward an equitable society where everyone has the right to clean water and a better quality of life.
LG Electronics remains committed to working closely with local authorities and community leaders to expand these initiatives, aiming for a future where every Nigerian community has access to clean water, sanitation, and improved living standards.
