Kwara Youths Complete Federal Tractor Operators Training in Akure

Date: 2025-10-10

The Kwara State Government has boosted its efforts to strengthen mechanized agriculture by engaging young individuals in the five day Federal Tractor Operators Training Programme. The training was held at the Agricultural Mechanics Machinery Operators Training Centre (AMMOTRAC) in Akure, Ondo State.

The programme, which began on October 6, 2025, exposed participants to essential skills, including the identification of tractor parts and implements, rudimentary driving and operation techniques, and the handling of tractors with attached implements such as trailers.

By gaining these technical skills, participants are set to become certified operators who can support farmers throughout Kwara. This move is expected to significantly reduce dependence on manual labor, boost farm output, strengthen the agricultural workforce, and ultimately contribute to food security in the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Afees Abolore Alabi, commended the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for providing full support for the participants. He noted that the programme represents a golden opportunity for Kwara youths to acquire the technical competence necessary to improve efficiency and competitiveness in modern farming.

Dr Abolore also lauded the the Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his support, describing him as a visionary leader whose commitment to youth empowerment and agricultural transformation continues to place Kwara at the forefront of innovative practices that strengthen food security and economic growth.

The commissioner, however, urged stakeholders, particularly youths, to continue to embrace opportunities provided through government initiatives, as Kwara advances towards a more productive and food-secure future.
