Isin LGA Leaders Petition Nigerian Army for Forward Operating Base to Combat Insecurity

Date: 2025-09-16

Traditional and political leaders from Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State have formally appealed to the Nigerian Army for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) to combat rising insecurity and create an enabling environment for development.

A high-powered delegation led by Oba Dr. Solomon Oloyede, the Olusin of Isanlu Isin and Chairman of the Isin Traditional Council, alongside his Vice Chairman, Oba Pharmacist Ajibola Ademola Julius, the Olusin of Ijara Isin, made the appeal during a visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

The delegation highlighted the increasing frequency of bandit attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling that have disrupted farming, trade, and community life across the region. They stressed that a permanent military presence would not only deter criminal elements but also restore confidence among residents and investors.

Members of the delegation included Hon. Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin, Federal Representative for Ekiti/Oke-Ero/Isin/Irepodun; Engr. Cornelius Segun Adebayo, Executive Secretary of NALDA; Hon. Benjamin Lanre Jolayemi, Isin LGA Chairman; Maj. Gen. Adekeye, representing the military; Dr. Olatayo Abikoye, project initiator; and Engr. Tunde Fadipe, former TIC Chairman of Isin.

The request follows months of grassroots agitation and previous protests over deteriorating security conditions in communities like Eruku and Isanlu Isin.

The leaders said the proposed FOB would provide a rapid-response base to deter crime, protect residents, and improve investor confidence in Kwara South. They stressed that the facility would also support agriculture, create jobs, and stimulate local commerce.

The initiative aligns with the security priorities of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, who has consistently emphasized safety as a foundation for growth in the state.

Community stakeholders described the move as a united effort by traditional rulers, political leaders, and technocrats to ensure peace and development, expressing optimism that the Army would grant the request.
