Residents of Agunbiade Parakoyi Street in the Sawmill area of Ilorin, Kwara State, were left shaken on Tuesday after discovering a lifeless body in their community.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), landlords and residents gathered at the scene, trying to identify the deceased, whose identity remains unknown.

Alhaji Abdulwahab Bello-Opeloyeru, Chairman of Ifesowapo Community and in charge of security for the area, said the body had not yet been identified.

He revealed that residents heard a scream at approximately 3.39 a.m., but due to prevailing security concerns, no one ventured outside to investigate.

"The corpse was discovered when we went out for early morning prayers," Bello-Opeloyeru said.

He alleged that the man was seen coming from a nearby hotel before the incident occurred.

Security personnel have since taken over the scene as investigations continue.

He recalled that the community had met on Monday to take a stand against the establishment of hotels and alcoholic joints in the area.

The meeting, he said, was to prevent such an occurrence.

However, police officers from the 'B' Division, Surulere Area, Ilorin, later arrived at the scene and picked up the body.

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Ejire Adetoun, proved futile, as she did not pick up her phone calls.
