A 71-year-old man, Abdulrahimi Olarinde of Okolaba Compound, Offa, Kwara State, who allegedly tricked a 9-year-old girl into his room where he forcefully had sexual intercourse with her has appeared before an Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court.

The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of rape contrary to Section 283 of Penal Code Law.

The accused allegedly committed the crime on January 15 having deceived the victim (name withheld) with N20 into his room and had canal knowledge of her.

Police from Offa Divisional Headquarters, Offa, arrested the 71-year-old accused following a complaint on January 16 by the father of the victim, Abdullateef Ibrahim of Opere Compound, Offa that the accused raped his 9-year-old daughter.

According to the complainant, when his daughter went to return a water fetcher at the accused’s house, he dragged her in his room and defiled her.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, revealed that the accused committed the offence.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Kareem informed the court that investigation on the matter was still ongoing and he urged the court to adjourn the case till further date to enable the completion of investigation.

He submitted further that the offence allegedly committed by the accused was not ordinarily bailable as he objected to the bail of the accused.

Chief  Magistrate Nurudeen Adeyanju, who presided over the case released the old man on bail at the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till February 21 to enable the police complete their investigation.
