Group Urges Peace in Saraki, Elders' Land Dispute
Peace of Kwaran Forum, an association of four political groups in Ilorin, on Thursday called for an amicable resolution of the land dispute involving some Ilorin elders, the state government, and the wife of immediate past governor of the state, Mrs. Toyin Saraki.
Leaders of PKF, who at a press briefing in Ilorin, called for an out of court settlement in the dispute, said those behind the alleged maligning of Saraki's wife reputation should jettison the case in the interest of peace and development in the state.
The PKF is an amalgam of 'Alaafia' Kwara, led by Mrs. Kudirat Lawal, Leader Toyin Saraki Women Forum, Hajia Ramat Bolude; Ilorin Emirate Youth Forum Leader, Oladimeji Suleiman Gambari; and Women leader, Maja Movement, Iyabo Mogaji.
The group, while suing for peace, enjoined the parties in the case to seek other dispute resolution mechanism in resolving it.
The group's appeal came on the heels of a suit filed before an Ilorin High Court in which the former governor's wife, among others, were alleged to have benefited from the sale of the Amusement Park, Ilorin.
The PKF spokesperson, Lawal said, "We appreciate and we shall continue to appreciate all the efforts of Mrs. Saraki, who is the wife of our leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki. Any attempt to rubbish her by any group will not be acceptable to us as a group.
"In the emirate of Ilorin, we are peace loving and we abhor going to court on certain issues. That is why we have leaders. I mean real leaders, who have the right to resolve whatever crisis over land related issues. We leave the rest however to posterity. But we can attest to Saraki's integrity."
Meanwhile, an aide to the former governor, Alhaji Suleiman Yusuf, has urged those he said wanted to tarnish the image of the Sarakis to refrain from such act.
He said, "We know who our elders are and therefore nobody should arrogate what he is not to himself. People should fear God and stop playing politics with people's integrity."
