About 1,700 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), as well as the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Progress Change (CPC) have defected to the Labour Party (LP) in Kwara State.

The party's governorship candidate in the last governorship election in the state, Mr. Benjamin Oyinloye who disclosed this when he, alongside other party chieftains, paid a visit to the State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Lokoja in Lafiaji, Edu Local Government Area of the state yesterday, said several others are indicating interest to join the party in the state.

The LP chieftain said Kwara North is critical to the realisation of the party's goal of ruling the state and urged the defectors "to stand with the vision of the party".

"What we are planning to do is to replicate the unprecedented development of Labour Party (LP) government in Ondo State under the leadership of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko which has been attested to by all and sundry," he said.

The state party chairman urged the new members who are from the area to support the vision and aspirations of the Labour Party and ensure its future electoral victory.
