Kwara to Conduct Council Election Manually on September 21
According to a news report from The Nation, the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) announced that the upcoming council election on September 21 will be conducted manually.
KWSIEC stated that it would not employ electronic voting or electronic transmission of results for reasons it did not disclose.
This announcement was made by KWSIEC Chairman, Mohammed Okanla, during a stakeholders' forum in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, organised in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections.
Okanla noted that “KWSIEC will ensure these elections are free, fair, credible, acceptable and inclusive.
“We have put in place measures to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, from voter register to the final declaration of results. We are committed to transparency and accountability in every step of the process.
“As we prepare for the coming local government elections, it is vital to recognise their importance in our democratic system. Local government elections are the foundation of our democratic structure, providing citizens with the power to elect leaders, who will directly affect their everyday lives.”
State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Babatunde Mohammed, called on the electoral umpire to provide a level playing field for political parties before, during and after the election.
