According to a news report from Daily Trust, a young woman named Tina Wilson was discovered loitering in the Kulende area of Il?rin. She recounted a harrowing tale of being raped in Bayelsa State, resulting in a pregnancy and her subsequent forced relocation to Kwara State.
Tina narrated her ordeal to a delegation from the Ministry of Social Development, explaining that she was raped a few months ago in her community in Mbiama LGA of Bayelsa State. Following the assault, she embarked on an undefined journey, travelling from place to place and often relying on alms for transport fare, until she eventually arrived in Kwara State.
Expressing gratitude for the care and support provided by the Kwara State Government, Tina pleaded not to be sent back to her home state.
The Commissioner for Social Development, Mrs Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, reiterated the government's resolve to provide timely intervention and support to all vulnerable groups to boost social sanity and self-development.
While appreciating the timely reaction of people on the matter, Mrs Afolashade emphasised that, “The ministry, by its established law, has the mandate to receive, evacuate, provide shelter and make necessary intervention to the vulnerable and the needy regardless of their status or social stratification.”
