Volleyball: Premier League promotion thrills Spikers boss
The Olalomi Royal Spikers emerged champions of the 2023 National Division 1 Volleyball League in the women's category after beating the Nigeria Air Force 3-2 (19-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-13) in the women's match on Sunday.
The Kwara-based side clinched first position in the women's Division 1 League with eight points while Nigeria Air Force Rocket placed second position with a total of three points.
The victory means the Olalomi Royal Spikers will be plying their trade in the Premier League next season.
Reacting to their feat, an elated Faremi hailed her team for their resilience against their Sunday opponents.
She said, “I am so happy to have been able to lead the team to glory and gain promotion to the Premier League, it is not easy but we came back from two goals down to win and if you look at the Nigeria Air ForceRocket team you will see that they have recruited well and they have recalled some of their senior players back.
“For us to beat them coming from two goals down is something that I am really happy about and I want to commend the players for their effort and a job well done.”
The coach also called for support as they prepared for the huge task ahead.
“I want to thank everyone for their support that made us champions and I also want to reach out to people to come and assist us as they can see that this team is a very young team. I want them to fund the team so that we can do better in the Premier League.”
