Kwara: Let's unite against obnoxious policy, NLC chair tells protesters
The organised labour in Kwara state, Wednesday, observed the nationwide protest directed by their national leadership with a call on the stakeholders to unite against government's obnoxious policies.
The protesters, who took off from the Labour House at Lagorin, matched through the Ahmadu Bello Way and later converged at the Government House Ilorin, where they were addressed by the deputy governor of the state, Kayode Alabi.
Armed with placards of various inscriptions, the protesters chanted solidarity songs to stress their grievances over the ugly result situation.
They were escorted by the police and other security agents while the protest lasted.
Addressing the gathering at the front of the Government House, Kwara NLC chairman, Comrade Ahmed Olayinka, urged unity against the 'obnoxious policies' of the federal government.
He said, “We must be united against obnoxious policies of the government. This is just the beginning of the struggle, which will continue until it is reversed.
“They are united against us and we must also be united against them. We will continue to demonstrate until the refineries are fixed and they pay living wages.”
Addressing the labour leaders, the deputy governor said the state government has rolled out several interventions to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal, assuring that it's willing to do more to further ameliorate the plight of the masses in line with available resources.
