Kwara House Urges FERMA on Roads' Repair
The Kwara State House of Assembly last week urged the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to give urgent priority to repair of Federal roads in the state.
The House said Kwara had allegedly been neglected for long by the agency through its activities noting that the if nothing was urgently done on the Federal roads in the state, they might become impassable for motorists very soon.
The Kwara House specifically mentioned the deplorable condition of IIesha-Okuta- Kosubosu road in the Baruten Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The people of the LGA are noted mainly for their industry in agriculture. It is widely believed that more than 60 percent of the food items consumed in the state are from the area.
The house stated this in its resolution at a plenary session after adopting a report of its committee on energy, works and transport on the deplorable condition of the road.
The Deputy Speaker of the House, Professor Gana Yissa who presided over the proceedings urged FERMA to save the road from complete damage.
Yissa stressed the social and economic importance of the road to both Kwara and neighboring states, which he said needed adequate attention.
Besides, the legislators urged Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed to approve the inclusion of IIesha-Gwanara-Okuta road for construction in the 2013 budget of the state.
The Deputy Speaker noted that lack of good motorable roads is causing setback for economic activities in the Baruten local government area of the state.
