Two kidnapped brothers regain freedom in Kwara

Date: 2022-10-18

Two brothers: Muideen, 15, and Abdulkadir, 12, children of Alhaji Aliyu Lukman who were kidnapped in their house at Aseyori area, Alagbado, Ilọrin, Kwara State, have regained their freedom from their abductors.

The children were kidnapped in the midnight of last week Thursday by some armed men who were dressed in Army uniforms.

They were released on Sunday after the payment of ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

The release of the two children was confirmed by their father, Lukman Aliyu, to PUNCH correspondent on Tuesday.

He said, “My two children have been released after the payment of ransom to the kidnappers. Apart from money, they also took drinks including Malt, Fearless (energy drink) and all network cards such as MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile.”

Meanwhile, the people of Ibagun-Okelele community have called for collaboration between the Ilorin South, Ilorin East and Kwara State government to end the incessant cases of kidnapping in Gaa-Osibi, Alagbado in the Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

The president of Ibagun Progressive Union, Alhaji Kurang Morogun, made the call in a statement issued in Ilorin, the state capital on Tuesday.

Morogun expressed the concern of the people of Ibagun-Okelele community over the spate of abduction of residents of Alubarika, Aleniboro and Aseyori communities; all in the Ilorin South local government area of the state.

He said the fear of his people stemmed from the fact that the Ibagun- Okelele community shared border with the troubled communities.

The IPU chairman clarified that no single case of kidnapping had occurred in the entire Ibagun-Okelele community.

While acknowledging the concerted efforts of the state government and the security agencies in nipping kidnapping and other acts of criminality in the bud across the length and breadth of the state, Morogun urged them not to rest on their oars until the state is totally rid of criminal elements.

Morogun also urged the people of the community to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the appropriate quarters.

He sympathised with the people of Gaa-Osibi and Aseyori in Alagbado communities over the recent attacks launched on them by kidnappers.

The PUNCH reports that no fewer than four cases of abduction took place in Gaa-Osibi, Alagbado communities, in quick succession in recent times.

Two persons were reportedly killed by kidnappers while five children, three of whom were children of the same parents and a young lady were abducted by the gunmen.

The situation has forced the residents of the troubled communities to abandon their homes and find shelter elsewhere.
