"The threat to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan was an empty threat", Aiyedun
A member of the National Assembly, Alhaji Akeem Aiyedun, has assured Nigerians of full implementation of the 2013 as against that of 2012.
Alhaji Aiyedun who is a member of the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives, gave the assurance while answering questions on a Radio Kwara Personality Interview Programme "Playing Host".
According to him, "all hands were on deck by Federal Lawmakers to ensure that the 2013 budget was achieved to the fullest. The concluding part of the implementation of the 2012 budget would also be carried over to that of next year".
Alhaji Aiyedun who is representing Oke-Ero, Ekiti, Irepodun and Isin Federal Constituency of Kwara State disclosed that he would soon sponsor a Bill in the National Assembly that would check the excesses of the executive, lamenting that despite the fact that lawmakers were appropriating Bills, it is not well implemented.
He said "the present administration under President Goodluck Jonathan had good programmes, but it is regrettable that when it comes to implementation of policies already appropriated by the National Assembly, it is always problematic".
"The Bill when eventually passed into law would assist the executive in the proper implementation of policies and in turn better the living standard of Nigerians.
"The threat to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan was an empty threat", Aiyedun added.
The lawmaker who is also a member of the Agriculture Committee in the House of Representatives said enough funds would be appropriated into the Agric Sector in the twenty-thirteen budget to guide against food shortage next year due to the flood incident that washed away many farm lands.
"In view of this, I want to call on all states that funds were allocated to by the Federal Government for the victims of flood disaster to spend the money judiciously. The National Assembly will monitor the full implementation of the funds as part of their oversight functions", the lawmaker said further.
The legislator who is also serving on the petroleum down stream committee was of the view that it was long overdue for the country to diversity and depend less on oil stressing that the nation would not have been facing her present problems.
Alhaji Aiyedun, however, enjoined Nigerians to be patient with the executive in achieving their electioneering promises claiming that corruption was not in those at the helm of affairs alone but most Nigerians and said if the fight against corruption was achieved, fifty percent of the nations problems are solved.
