Football: Saraki Kicks Against Foreign Coach

Date: 2012-10-29

Owner of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club, Bukola Saraki has said that there is no need to shop for foreign coach for the Super Eagles if the indigenous clubs are doing well.

In an interview with journalists in Ilorin on Sunday, the former Kwara State governor stated that Nigeria needed to build a formidable structure, strong foundation and consistent planning to achieve growth in football.

He added that domestic league should be strengthened so that good and budding football talents could be discovered, groomed and harnessed.

He said there was the need to avoid corruption in sports, adding that with good administrators, Nigerian football and sport generally will be boosted.

Saraki said, "If the Eagles under coach Stephen Keshi is doing well and winning matches I do not think there is any reason to change a winning team.

"We should have a plan and keep to the objective. We need to have a programme and maintain consistency. That is why I keep saying that we should go to the domestic league. Without a strong domestic league, we will always depend on the foreign players. But with a strong league, we will have a team whose pillars will be the home-based players.

"We also need to have good administrators. Changing Keshi is not the solution to the team's problems. If you bring a foreign coach, he will not succeed if the foundation of our football is weak and corrupt."
