45 years on, Kwara govt remembers Col. Ibrahim Taiwo

Date: 2021-02-14

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq has described the former military Governor of the state Col. Ibrahim Taiwo as a man of history who laid solid foundations for infrastructural development of the state.

No-nonsense Col. Ibrahim Taiwo, a former military Governor of Kwara State after whom the popular Ibrahim Taiwo Road was named in Ilorin, was abducted and later killed on the same day that the Col. Bukar Sukar Dimka-led coupists murdered the Head of State Major General Murtala Ramat Muhammed in the then capital city Lagos in a botched attempt to seize power on February 13, 1976.

He was buried in his native town of Ogbomosho in Oyo State.

"Forty-five (45) years after his assassination, the memories of these valiant patriots linger in the consciousness of our people. They came; they saw; and they conquered. We especially remember and appreciate the strides of our former Governor Ibrahim Taiwo within the short period of his memorable leadership of the state," according to a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Rafiu Ajakaye.

"On the 45th anniversary of the botched coup, it is instructive to note that these fallen officers, including Kwara's Col. Ibrahim Taiwo, continue to get mostly positive reviews of their remarkable yet short stewardship. His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq hereby joins the multitude of our people to commemorate this historic day of their assassination, commiserate with the families they left behind, and pray to God to comfort them and repose the souls of these great military statesmen who died in the service of our fatherland."
