Kwara youths protest, call for scrapping of SARS

Date: 2020-10-09

Some youths in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, have staged a peaceful protest in order to put an end to what they called an extrajudicial killing and other activities of the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The youths, who displayed placards with various inscriptions such as stop shooting at innocent citizens, end police brutality, SARS officers are official armed robbers of the Federal Government, insisted that they are against the reformation of SARS but want it scrapped.

The youths marched through the popular Post Office arena to the State Headquarters of the Kwara State Police Command along Ahmadu Bello Avenue chanting to put an end to SARS.

Speaking on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, DCP Paul Omata, pleaded with the youths to go about their lawful activities with the assurance that their grievances would be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, for his attention.

The youths, however, maintained that the peaceful protest will continue until the Federal Government gives listening ears to their request by ending SARS to stop the extrajudicial killing in the country.
