Date: 2019-08-03

In its determination to strengthen unity among its members, Kwara State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is to organize SWAN media games next year.

The State Chairman of SWAN, Jimoh Bashir, disclosed this in Ilorin when he received members of the 2019 Press Week Committee of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by its Chairman, Mallam Muhammad Rabiu.

Bashir said the Media Games which used to be a biennial event would be revived next year to build the bond of friendship among practicing journalists in Kwara State and promote healthy living.

"As sportswriters, we do not just write sports news alone or criticise, but engage in sporting activities to make our members mentally and physically fit for improved productivity," SWAN Chairman said.

He promised that SWAN would give necessary support to the Press Week Committee, especially in organizing sporting events for members of the Council.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Press Week Committee of NUJ, Mallam Muhammad Rabiu, highlighted the activities of the week and sought the support of SWAN in organizing a befitting sporting event for Journalists in the state.

Mallam Rabiu called for strong collaboration between SWAN and NUJ towards making the forthcoming event a success.

SWAN National Officer, Alloy Chukwuemeka, also promised that the body would continue to support every meaningful programme of its parent body, NUJ, for mutual benefits.
