#JusticeForFirdaus: Groups Commend Atunwa Led Committee, Charges Him on Justice

Date: 2017-12-29

Human right groups, United Against Injustice, One Voice Nigeria and Society for Justice on Thursday commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chairman of House Committee on Justice, Rt Hon Razak Atunwa for taking up the case of Ms Amasa Firdaus.

It will be recalled that Ms Amasa was denied her right to be called to the Nigeria Bar Association owing to the hijab she wore on the call to bar ceremony.

In a joint statement issued by the groups in Abuja, Comrade Abdulazeez Lateef who spoke on behalf of the groups noted that seeking justice for Ms Amasa is imperative to ensure respect for the rights of persons in the future.

Abdulazeez after commending the House of Representatives also expressed confidence in the Atunwa led committee of Justice in ensuring Ms Amasa gets justice.

"We are confident that the Committee on Justice led by Rt Hon Atunwa from Kwara will ensure fairness prevails on this issue; we have researched about the chairman of the committee, and from all indications we are confident that he will ensure justice prevails.

"From our findings, we understand that he is an attorney, a former speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and during his term as speaker, lawmaking in the state took a progressive dimension; we believe he will ensure no iota of injustice prevails on this matter" he said.

The groups urged the Speaker of the House to ensure the recommendations of the House Committee on Justice are implemented after it completes its activities.
