'Kwara Land Use Policy Requires Understanding' - Atunwa
Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Razak Atunwa, has called on the Ilorin Emirate Descendant Progressive Union and all other stakeholders to embrace dialogue in order to resolve the contentious Land Use policy of the Kwara State Government.
In a statement on Monday in Ilorin, he urged the stakeholders to display the spirit of brotherhood and work together for the progress of the state.
The Speaker said the House of Assembly had noted the concerns of the IEDPU on the Land Use policy.
He added that efforts were being made for amicable resolution of the issues.
He said the policy was applicable to the entire Kwara State and not restricted to Ilorin Emirate alone.
According to him, a change in the Land-Use law can only be effected by the House of Assembly.
Atunwa said, "The consultations would have fully commenced, but for the fact that the House of Assembly went on Ramadan recess half-way through the month. We will resume the process immediately the Assembly is back from recess."
Meanwhile, a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, on Monday appealed to the people of Ilorin Emirate and the entire residents of Kwara State not to view with political colouration, the Land Use policy of the state government.
In a statement on Monday, he said the Land Use policy was currently being misconstrued.
