Kwara First lady Distributes Relief Materials To Widows

The Wife of Kwara Governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed on Wednesday distributed relief materials to some widows across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state to alleviate their sufferings.

Mrs Ahmed, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Asiat Saka, said the items were to assist the widows in the state.

The items distributed were Rice, Beans, Gari, Sugar and clothing among others.

She said that the items were distributed to support the widows by putting smiles on their faces.

She explained the concept of widowhood in Nigeria, obstacles and challenges faced by widows with the effects on the family institution and actions needed by all to correct the situation.

Ahmed called on NGO's, individuals and philanthropists to cooperate and collaborate by building synergy with renewed sense of commitment to complement government's efforts in assisting the needy and poor in the society.

"I want to assure all the widows that their empowerment and distribution of the relief package will continue and be sustained," she added.

In his remarks, the Director of the Ministry, Mrs Sikirat Alao urged the widows to face their challenges with courage and determination to fulfill parental obligations.

She also advised the widows to be contented with whatever they have, and struggle to give their children sound education.

Mrs Salimat Yahya, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the governor's wife for her support and donation always.
