Only S’Court will determine authentic Kwara PDP chair, Ilyasu insists

Date: 2017-05-12

A member of the troubled Council of Elders of the Kwara State chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Ibrahim Ilyasu has said that the judgment of the Supreme Court will not only determine the party national chairman, but also declare who among Prince Sunday Fagbemi and Iyiola Oyedepo is the authentic party chairman in the state.

Ibrahim who spoke to Pilot Politics yesterday, stressed that court judgment will definitely be the panacea for the crisis rocking the party.

He added that Kwara PDP remains loyal to leadership of the national caretaker committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

According to him, Iyiola Oyedepo was initially not in support of Makarfi but aligned with Ali Modu Sheriff, adding that he suddenly left him upon realising that he was treading the wrong path.

He, however, condemned Oyedepo for imposing himself on the party, saying he soiled his integrity at the last general election in the state.

He alleged that the factional chairman collected huge amount of money during the election but refused to use for benefit of the party.

"What we all await now is the Supreme Court judgment, we are rest assured that it will go in favour of Markafi. Sheriff and his cohort here only want to deter the party progress but very soon the leadership will be determined and that will put a face to the crisis rocking us here too.

"Oyedepo was never the people's choice because he can sell the party at any time, this was what he has done in the past, and that is what we are guarding against. He maintained that his faction of the party is ready to follow order of the national caretaker chairman in interest of the party.

He noted that though forming another party is not yet an option, but said plans will be instituted if the court judgment rules against Makarfi.
