Recession: Kwara ICAN tasks members on entrepreneurship

The Kwara State Chapter, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has charged its members to embrace entrepreneurship as a way out of the current economic recession.

The newly elected Chairman, Pastor Abel Aiyedogbon gave the charge during an investiture ceremony of the new executives held at Banquet Hall on Wednesday. He said, "Our investiture today is a clarion call to service, I therefore humbly and solemnly make a declaration that I will serve in capacity as the chairman to the best of my ability. By God's grace I'll lift the banner of ICAN high and defend its ideals at all times.

"The district under my leadership will work tirelessly towards the development of members and capacity building. In this time of economic recession I encourage our members to embrace entrepreneurship in order to break even during the period," he added.

Aiyedogbon noted that among several programmes, his tenure will pursue is 'catch them young programme 'of the institute, which is mainly to encourage students in secondary school to develop their interest in the accounting profession.

In his remarks, the outgone chairman of the Association, Alhaji Suleiman Ishola enumerated some of his achievements to include ensuring members' participation in Annual Accountants' conference and mandatory Continuous Professional (MCPE) programme, coordination and support for Student Special Project (SSP) Others according to him are, introduction of keep fit programme for members, Credit Hours enjoyed by members who attend monthly meetings, and sustainance of cordial relationship between the Institute and Kwara State government.

Ishola who doubles as the Accountant-General of Kwara State urged his colleagues to champion the cause of professionalism in the management of national resources.

He said, "We should not shy away from taking those critical decisions that will significantly and positively impact our integrity and ability to create further wealth in the society.

"I earnestly court the support and cooperation of members to the new excos. I'm persuaded that as a team, we can overcome all odds and remain value-laden." Other excos are Alhaji Rasaq Momonu, Vice Chairman; Mr. Olutade Adebanjo, General Secretary; Mr. Bello Oluwafemi,Treasurer; Hajia Barakat Yeni Ololu,Financial Secretary and Mr. Tewogbola Teslim, Publicity Secretary.

Mr. Ibrahim Sadiq , Assistant Secretary; Mr. M Salam,Technical Secretary; Alhaji Suleiman Ishola, Ex-Officio 1; Mohammed Bala Ibrahim, Ex-Officio 2 and Mr. Alaya Abdulrasheed Ex-Officio 3.
