Today, I revisited the pilot wheat demonstration plot situated by the ASA River Bank, in Asa LGA of Kwara State. The project is a collaboration of the Lake Chad Research Institute, Maiduguri, Born State on Wheat Value Chain Development.

On the 24th of November, 2016, we planted 12 different varieties of wheat to identify the best variety that will do best in KWARA, and today the germination rate was impressive (we recorded about 90% germination rate).

Further to this demonstration, we will then embark on the massive production of the best varieties through a minimum of 1,600 outgrower farmers (on 1,600Ha), who will be empowered to commence Wheat Production under the coordination of the KWARA AGRO MALL through a well structured tripartite off taking agreement involving the farmer, the processor, and financier/investor.

This initiative is aimed at creating a sustainable import replacement for wheat importation in Nigeria, reduce the excessive demand for FOREX to import wheat and enhance the growth of Nigerian economy.

We wouldn't stop all efforts until we see our food secured, our economy growing and our environment protected.
