IBEDC, Zango-Kulende Community reach accord

Date: 2016-08-15

Strong indications emerged weekend that Zango-Kulende Community in Ilorin, Kwara State capital would now have improvement in supply of electricity to the area by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, (IBEDC).

At a stakeholders meeting involving officials of IBEDC and elders of the community on Friday, a mutual understanding was reached with the elders promising to honour their own part by paying their electricity bills promptly. On their part, IBEDC officials also assured the community elders of improved electricity supply to the area, just as some residents confirmed that there had been a marked improvement in the last few days.

IBEDC and Zango-Kulende Community had been in serious disagreement in the last four months over irregular power supply and non-payment of electricity bills by the residents who claimed they were paying for darkness.

However, IBEDC vowed that electricity supply would not be restored until there was a commitment by the community to pay their bills. With the accord now reached between the two parties, reports from the community indicated that "there appears to be hope that the disagreement may have been put to rest, as peace has been brokered.

A resident informed The Herald yesterday that electricity supply had been restored though for some hours daily pending when the national supply would also improve across the country.
