Ilorin: 34 traffic offenders bag five years

Date: 2012-07-11

The Kwara State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Christopher Ademoluti has said 34 traffic offenders have been sentenced to five years and eight months imprisonment for various traffic offences.

In a statement on Monday by the sector's Head, Public Education, Mr. B. Asekhauno, the sector commander said the command organised a mobile court along Ilorin-Omupo road to step down traffic crashes in the state.

He said one of the 35 alleged offenders that were arraigned was discharged and acquitted.

He added that the 34 offenders were convicted for committing traffic offenses such as not using seat belt; overloading and not wearing safety helmet.

Ademoluti reiterated that the exercise would be a continuous one and warned all road users in the state to desist from offenses like over-loading; over-speeding; use of cell phone while driving and use of worn out tyres.

He warned that any offender arrested would be arraigned before the magistrate court.
