Kwara Bans Okadas from 'business areas'
Below is the text of the Kwara State government announcement banning Okadas from 'business areas'
RE: DEFINING BUSINESS ROUTES IN ILORIN METROPOLIS AND BAN OF COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLISTS(OKADA RIDERS)
- The state committee at its meeting held on 4th June, 2012 directed that business routes in Ilorin metropolis be identified with a view to banning motorcyclists from plying the routes in order to enhance the security of our business area. The decision was sequel to security report that attributed most crimes being commited to commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders).
- Based on the above, His Excellency, the Executive
Governor approved that Okada riders be banned from
the following business routes immediately:
- Ahmadu Bello Way (the whole length)
- Murtala Mohammed Road (from GSS round-about to Ola-Olu Hospital)
- Abdulazeez Attah Road (from a round-about to Oja Tuntun Baboko junction)
- Umar Saro Road (AP round-about to Geri Alimi round-about)
- Fate Road (MANR round-about to MOH round-about)
- Obbo Road (the whole length)
- New Yidi Road (the whole length)
- Zulu Gambari Road
- Iloffa Road
- Offa Road
- Lajorin Road
- The whole of GRA
- Consequently, the State Government will embark on serious advocacy to enlighten member of the public of this serious government decision and the advocacy will be run for a period of four (4) weeks after which law enforcement agencies will commence enforcement of the new order.
- For this purpose, the advocacy is to begin immediately and will run for four (4) weeks (Wednesday, 4th July - Friday, 3rd August, 2012) in all the state's print and electronic media
