'Disregard for inherited vocational skills worsens unemployment' - Sanu Shehu

Date: 2016-06-17

A prominent Islamic Scholar, Usman Sanu Sheu, yesterday said disregard for inherited vocational skills famous with the ancient Ilorin township has aggravated unemployment.

He stated that rather than injecting concept of modernity into the jobs to suit contemporary needs, the educated elite had chosen to abandon the creative and lucrative ventures of the people.

Sanu Sheu spoke at a Ramadan lecture organised by the Ilorin Emirate Community, University of Ilorin chapter, held at the National Secretariat of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, saying the trend of abandonment of weaving, for instance, was a bad omen for the community.

Also speaking, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, identified knowledge as an indispensable component in life and urged all and sundry to seek knowledge.
