Youths discover mutilated body of abducted housewife in Kwara
Residents of Arandun community in the Irepodun local government area of Kwara State have expressed apprehension over discovery of mutilated body of a middle-aged housewife.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that remains of the deceased, identified to be Madam Rafat Azeez, were discovered by youths in the community at a location known as Gaa Animoro in the area, few days after her sudden disappearance.
It was also learnt that the mother of five was said to have left home on Sunday May 8, at about 6:45 pm, after allegedly receiving a strange anonymous call. Speaking with journalists, an old woman, Sifawu Lawal, who claimed to be the victim's mother, said that a search party was immediately organised when the alarm of her disappearance was raised by her children.
She said the fears of the family was further heightened when they started receiving strange calls from her mobile lines from some unidentified persons a day after her abduction demanding N3 million as ransom. She said the callers who claimed that the victim was sold to them equally mentioned some names as the brain behind the act which allegedly included the victim's husband.
According to Sifawu, those mentioned along with the husband were promptly arrested by the police and transferred to the police headquarters in Ilorin for interrogation. She, however, said that the youth who felt not satisfied with the claim of the strange callers and suspected foul play, organised another search party which led to the alleged discovery of the victim's mutilated body.
"The youth were suspecting foul play as regard the mentioned names and with the assistance of the town's vigilante group they had to comb the entire community. "It was then that the remains of the victim with her breasts, tongue, a leg dismembered from her body were discovered behind a Fulani settlement camp within the community", the source said.
Also speaking, a member of the community's traditional council and the Ejemu Alaran of Arandun, Chief Olajide Ajibare, described the incident as "very unfortunate and shocking".
Chief Ajibare, who said the town's traditional council had held series of meetings, added that people of the town had been co-operating with the police in order to unearth those behind the dastardly act.
Speaking on the development, The Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, said that some arrests had been made in connection with the crime adding that investigation had already commenced.
