Fuel Subsidy: Kwara NASS Members Knock Buhari as Ben Bruce Mocks
Following the announcement of removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Federal Government on Wednesday and immediate increase in fuel pump price from N85 to N145, several lawmakers have expressed disapproval and apprehension.
Notably, some members of the National Assembly from Kwara State, where Senate President Bukola Saraki hails from, have taken subtle knocks at President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on which platform they were elected and represent their constituents in Abuja.
Senator Rafiu Ibrahim (APC, Kwara South) via his Twitter handle @rafiuibrahim said: "How can a government that came in so popular decide to abandon the masses just after one year of trying; subsidy removal and devaluation in 1 day? "Can we now say that all the promised of fixing the refineries are not feasible any more or what?"
Fellow Kwara APC chieftain and member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Razak Atunwa also voiced his apprehension in a series of tweets using his handle @Atunwa_1. He tweeted: "Workers" salaries are delayed and some are unpaid for months! Economy getting poorer! Unemployment! Inflation! And now fuel price is up!
"This government made ambitious promises during campaigns that elated and gave Nigerians strong hope but the contrary is happening now. #FG "At this point, we have to take building and running of local refineries seriously. We shouldn't be suffering for what we have. #Fuel #FG"
Senator Ben Murray Bruce via his Twitter account @benmurraybruce went subtle in his tweets but threw punches through his retweet of other handles. He tweeted humorously: "Somebody is asking me for advise on how he can survive fuel price increase. What can I say? Personally, I'm even considering buying a horse!
