THE rerun election in the two wards of Ilorin North-West LGA for the Kwara State House of Assembly witnessed a large turn out in the 60 polling units in the Balogun Alanamu and Oloje areas of Ilorin where the election was held.

Law enforcement agents helped to prevent breakdown of law and order that was envisaged by some people prior to the election day.

The Appeal Court had ordered a rerun election in both wards of Ilorin West constituency as the 2011 polls held there were marred by irregularities.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Moshood Adebimpe, said it was a free and fair election. He described the accusation leveled against PDP by the ACN over the use of thugs as baseless.

"The election was free and fair and the PDP is very hopeful to win the election," he said.

However, the media aide to governorship    candidate of the ACN in the last governorship election in the state, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, has described the election as a sham.

He said it was unfortunate that the people were not allowed to vote in a free and fair manner, and also alleged that voters were driven away by people suspected to be thugs.
