Aisha Buhari meets Govs' wives
The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, on Monday, met with the wives of state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to discuss strategies on how the First Ladies could better serve the interest of their people.
Addressing governors' wives, at the meeting which took place at the Conference Room of the First Lady Wing, Mrs. Buhari told them that they were not precluded from making a difference in the lives of such people. even though the constitution does not explicitly provide a role for them.
She explained that the Governors' Wives Forum was an organ for the women to support their husbands in their effort to deliver on the change agenda. According to her, "As wives of political office holders, we must continue to do our best in contributing to the success.
"I believe that in our little ways, we can assist them to bring succour to the populace, especially those in need, such as victims of insurgency in the North-East geo-political zone and other forms of violence, physically-challenged and other vulnerable groups.
"It is on this note that I felt it is important for us to come together to strengthen our unity and extend our solidarity to each other under a common platform.
The President's wife spoke of the restructuring of the two regional halves of the forum to encourage networking, co-operation and constructive partnership, and urged them to be prepared to deal with programmes that were capable of impacting positively on the lives of citizens particularly the less privileged members of the society.
