IEDPU offsets three prison inmates fine
The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union(IEDPU) has paid the court fine of three inmates of Oke-Kura Maximum Prisons, Ilorin as a measure to effect their release from prison.
The National President of IEDPU, Alhaji AbduHamid Adi announced the gesture when he led members of the union on visitation to the prisons at Ilorin and Mandala as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of IEDPU's annual conferences.
The inmates, it was learnt, had completed their jail term, but could not be released because of their inability to offset the fine as prescribed by the law.
They are Dansaga Kehinde, Ibrahim Adamu and Ibrahim Bello.
After the payment of the fine, Adi, appealed the Prisons authority to fast-track the release of the inmates.
He said the socio-cultural organisation was in the facility to provide succour to the distressed inmates.
The Union President added that the visit was also meant to ascertain their welfare stressing that the annual conference was very crucial in the history of the union.
While responding, Officer-in-charge of the Ilorin Prisons, DCP Aliyu Baba Usman, thanked the union for identifying with the inmates with the visit and good gesture extended to them.
He pointed out that 50th annual conference was no mean feat in the annals of the union and praise founding fathers for the achievements recorded since it was set up.
IEDPU also distributed cartons of toilet soap, detergents and toiletries among others to prison inmates.
The union also visited Islamic Orphanage Foundation in Ilorin where it donated N250,000 for the upkeep of the orphans.
