Unilorin produces quality graduates - Ambali

Date: 2015-12-02

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), has expressed confidence in the quality of graduates produced by the institution, saying they have been trained not only in learning but also in sound character.

Prof. Ambali stated this last Tuesday, (November 24, 2015) when the Deputy Director, Mobilisation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Sanusi Abdulrasheed, visited him in his office. The NYSC official was in the University for a pre-mobilisation briefing for final year students who were getting ready for their one-year compulsory national service.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji, observed that graduates of the institution have been exposed to challenges and have developed the skills to solve problems.

He said, "With particular regard to our prospective corps members here, we certainly can beat our chests and say that we always give you good ambassadors".

The Vice-Chancellor said that wherever they are, the Unilorin products have "always demonstrated that they graduated from this University not only in learning but also in sound character that matter. So, we can always give you that assurance that our students are well brought up. They have been properly moalded through the furnace of the University academically and morally".

He noted that the NYSC has remained relevant and significant to national life over the years, saying the Scheme had been bedeviled by challenges, in particular, the insurgency posed by the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-eastern part of the country.

He, however, commended the NYSC for doing everything possible towards alleviating the suffering of the corps members and making life a bit comfortable for them.

In his remarks, the Deputy Director, Mobilisation, NYSC Abuja, Mr. Abdulrasheed, explained that the purpose of the visit was to educate the prospective corps members on what they need to know about the process of mobilisation to facilitate and guarantee a hitch-free process, especially with the deployment of online procedures in the mobilisation process.

Speaking earlier, the Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs, Mrs. Kikelomo Sallee, said that the sensitisation was important in order to guarantee a hitch-free mobilisation exercise, which, in the past, was usually fraught with some challenges.

Present on the occasion were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. (Mrs.) N.Y.S. Ijaiya; the University Librarian, Dr. Joseph Omoniyi; the Deputy Bursar, Mr. Munir Dere, the Deputy Registrar, Mr M. S. Adegoke, who represented the Registrar, and the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun.
