Kwara's Abdulrahman Playing Mind Game with Sunshine Stars
As Sunshine Stars head to Ilorin seeking to mend their near shattered title aspirations, Technical Adviser of their hosts, Kwara United FC, Tunde Abdulrahman, has chosen to psychologically win the fixture ahead of kick-off as heaps praises on the Akure side for their performances so far this season.
His comments few days to Saturday's Match Day 30 encounter has been interpreted as a decoy to make Sunshine Stars lower their guards and open up for an upset.
Abdurahman said Sunshine Stars have amassed some good results that can frighten any opponent they are visiting especially those on the lower rung of the log but was quick to assure the Harmony Boys fans that they won't be fazed by the intimidating profile of the Akure Gunners also nicknamed the Owena Waves.
Abdulrahman led Wikki Tourists of Bauchi back to the Glo Premier League though the club he turned his back on to take up the offer at Ilorin has turned in more prosperous results under Coach Abdul Maikaba, sitting on third position with 48 points while Kwara United is languishing on the 17th spot as one of the relegation candidates on 32 points.
But the coach insists that the squad and coaches are aware of how important it is for them to win all three points from the game to give their fans something to look forward to as the league approaches the Muslim festival period.
Abdulrahman captured the essence of winning in these words, "We cannot afford to lose anymore points especially at home even though we are working on our results on the road".
"Sunshine Stars have been one of the best sides this season and they play a very attractive football and we are preparing to deal with that when they come calling on Saturday".
He urged the fans to again come out in large numbers and cheer their side assuring that, "we want to win and we will do all we can to make sure we beat them. We are not going to settle for anything except the maximum three points at stake and I want to call on our fans to come out and also play a big role by getting behind the lads on Saturday".
A 3-0 defeat to Kwara United in Warri on Sunday condemned the Ilorin-based team to the drop zone while Nasarawa United humiliated Sunshine Stars in Akure 3-2 also on Sunday in the Match Day 29 fixture.
