Court remands two suspected cultists in Ilorin
Two suspected cult members, Jimoh Marufu and Usman Ismail, both of Ganmo Area, Ilorin, found in possession of dangerous weapons have been remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
An Ilorin Magistrate court ordered the remand of the accused having appeared before it on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and being a member of secret cult, contrary to Sections 97 of Penal Code Law and 11(1) of Secret Cult and Secret Society Prohibition Law of Kwara State.
Police from Ganmo Divisional Headquarters of the state had arrested the accused on August 17 while on surveillance patrol in the area.
The accused were allegedly arrested at a criminal hideout where they were holding meeting with the other members of Eiye Secret Cult Confraternity now at large in the area.
According to the police, the accused confessed to be members of Eiye Secret Cult Confraternity, while harmful items such as four knives, criminal charms and a locally made small black pot were recovered from them.
Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that investigation conducted at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin revealed that the accused committed the offence.
The prosecutor, Inspector David Wodi, who informed the court that investigation into the case was yet to be completed, objected to the bail of the accused, urging the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.
The trial Magistrate, Mr. Muhammed Ndakene, agreed with the prosecutor and remanded the accused at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin till September 10.
