'Rangers will come good'
Enugu Rangers' caretaker coach, Imama Amapakabo insists the side will come good despite Sunday's 3-1 loss to Kwara United on match day 11 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Dele Ojo's howitzer from 35 yards gave United the lead against the Flying Antelopes at a packed Illorin Township Stadium but Rasaq Adegbite equalised 13 minutes after Ojo's effort with an equally sublime goal.
Rangers were however made to rue numerous missed opportunities as strikes from Olufemi Oladapo and Emmanuel Amungwa ensured they returned empty handed to the Coal City.
Amapakabo has however refused to let his head drop insisting there were positives to draw from the defeat.
"I know my team played very well had greater possession and dominated play but my goalkeeper had a nightmare of a game," Amapakabo told supersport.com.
The former Sharks and Enyimba assistant coach added that Rangers will continue playing entertaining and effective football with his charges now keying into his coaching philosophy.
"My players are beginning to understand my ideologies and concept of how the game should be played though I will say it is still work in progress.
"The entire squad has impressed especially with how they have been able to grab what we have taught them in a short space of time," he said.
Next up for the Flying Antelopes; a potentially feisty match day 12 contest against Abia Warriors at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on June 17.
The Warriors are currently riding the crest of a wave following their dramatic 3-2 win over second-placed Sunshine Stars in Umuahia on Sunday.
Amapakabo is confident of a win and insists he has the personnel to pull the chestnut out of the fire.
"We have some very good young players coming through the ranks.
"Godwin Aguda, Emmanuel Eze, Sodiq Aremu, Chisom Egbuchilam, Izuchukwu Ibe, Obinna Nwobodo and Ogbodudu Onyedika are all improving every day," he said.
He rounded off by addressing speculations regarding his future with reports in some sections of the media reporting that " a more experienced coach" would be hired by the management of the club on a permanent basis after Kelechi Emeteole was sacked on May 27.
"I do not dwell on rumours. As I speak, I have a letter from the management of Rangers International appointing me as head coach of the team and that is all that matters to me.
"I am focused on the job I have now until I am told anything to the contrary.
"My joy is that the management for now have absolute confidence and belief in my ability to lead the team.
"In my letter of appointment, no mention of the word, "interim" was stated.
"I am for now 'Head coach' of Rangers International. Head of all technical matters and I will continue to work to see that we get the results we require to make the management and fans happy," he said.
Rangers currently sit in 16th place in the NPFL standings with 11 points from 11 matches.
