Senate Presidency: Group Alleges Campaign of Calumny Against Saraki
A group of young Nigerian elites, under the aegis of The Quintessential Professionals, has cried out over alleged moves by some politicians to launch a campaign of calumny against Senator Bukola Saraki, representing Kwara Central constituency and a contender for Senate presidency.
The group, in a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Mr. James Bassey, stated that those behind the alleged campaign were opposed to Saraki’s candidature.
According to the group, the game plan was to allege that Saraki was distributing dollars to senators-elect in order to buy their votes.
The statement said that no amount of campaign of calumny would make the senators-elect, who have pledged their support for Saraki, to change their minds.
“They are determined to elect their own leader who is skilled, competent and capable and had vowed to resist the imposition of anybody on them by some selfish politicians”, it said.
Some senators-elect, under the aegis of like minds, have queued behind Saraki in his bid to become the next Senate president.
“It is not surprising, however, that such unfounded and frivolous allegation is coming out from a frustrated group which does not mean well for the development of National Assembly as an institution and Nigeria as a whole”, the statement added.
