Ilorin people decry condition of schools in Kwara

Date: 2015-05-18

Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, IEDPU, has given Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, a position paper, requesting for what it expects from the governor from May 29.

Among the requests of IEDPU was what it described as the worrisome infrastructural state of primary and secondary schools in the state.

President of the union, Abdulamid Adi, during an interview with newsmen yesterday in Ilorin made the feelings of the emirate known, saying the parlous situation of the schools was becoming a source of great concern.

He said it is disturbing to note the gross shortfall and dilapidated condition of infrastructure in many schools grant aided by the state government.

The situation, according to him, is largely responsible for the falling standard of education and low performance of students of the state in public examinations.

The state of our primary and secondary schools is highly worrisome and we are not happy about the deplorable condition of the infrastructure and ancillary facilities in the schools.

"Our fear now is that the foundation of our children's education is shaky; their education and future are threatened.

"Something must therefore be done urgently to stop the slide and effect necessary corrections. A stitch in time saves nine", the union president warned.
