2015 - Road Safety to Deploy 20,000 Officers

Date: 2015-03-27

The Federal Road Safety Corps on Thursday said it has deployed 20, 000 officials ahead of the 2015 general elections.

A statement by the Corps spokesperson, Imoh Ekuk, said the heavy deployment came as a result of the expected massive human and vehicular movement across Nigeria by people to cast their votes.

Mr. Ekuk said aside the deployment of 20,000 personnel, 413 patrol vehicles, ambulances and tow trucks would also be deployed along designated routes of the highways.

He said the FRSC has also made efforts to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure sanity on the nation's highways throughout the election period.

He said the corps had drawn a road map towards effective patrolling of designated routes of the highways, in addition to prompt rescue services and public enlightenment campaigns, as part of measures to engender best road safety practices among road users.

"This is in addition to the Corps' 24 emergency ambulance response centres located at designated routes across the country in the FCT, Kaduna, Gombe, Jigawa, Taraba, Niger, Kogi, Ondo, Edo, Osun, Nasarawa, Plateau and Kwara states," Mr. Ekut said.

He urged road users to work towards proper planning and trip management by ensuring that their vehicles are in good conditions and comply with traffic rules and regulations.

The motorists were warned to desist from all road offences and avoid night journeys.

He encouraged the public to always call the FRSC toll free emergency number 122 and 070022553772, to report any traffic crash or any other traffic-related challenges for prompt response.
