INEC urges women on PVCs collection in Kwara
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday appealed to women to educate their husbands and children of voting age to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara, Dr Emmanuel Onucheyo, made the appeal in Ilorin at a sensitisation workshop for women organised by INEC on the February general elections in the state.
“We believe in our women to reach places and convince eligible voters to collect their voter cards; women are mobilisers in their own right,” he said.
The REC also urged women to vote for the candidates of their choice during the election and assured them that adequate security would be put in place to make the exercise peaceful.
Onucheyo, who commended women for their role in the society, advised them to ensure that their under-age children did not come to polling units during the elections.
He told the women that INEC would make use of Card Readers for the accreditation of voters during the elections to ascertain authenticity of the PVCs and multiple voting.
He, therefore, warned them that it was an offence to have more than one card.
The REC affirmed the commitment of INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the state.
In her remarks, Bosede Adimabua, the President of the Women wing of Kwara State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), appealed to government to ensure adequate security in each polling unit during the elections.
She also appealed to the women, irrespective of their religious inclinations, to pray for peace to reign before, during and after the elections.
“Prayer is the answer to the question of Nigeria Problem,” she said.
