KWACCIMA Expresses Concern about Effect of Insecurity on Investment Drive

Date: 2014-11-20

President, Kwara state Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), Chief Hezekiah Adediji, has expressed worry over the dwindling economic growth occasioned by insecurity, poor finances and infrastructure dilapidation in the country.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin on Tuesday to commemorate the kick-off of the 47th Annual General Meeting(AGM) of the association, Adediji urged the government at all levels to brace up with the challenges so as to assist the organised private sector to move forward.

He noted that the year 2013 was challenging not only to many businesses in Nigeria but to all the chambers across the country.

He said: "Poor economic enabling environment characterised the economy and this coupled with poor security dealt negatively with economic drives and employment generation.

"The absence of necessary infrastructure and little or no access to finance were also hindrances to economic growth but despite these, our members have worked hard to keep their businesses afloat and there is the need to do everything possible to bring about a change".

Adediji added: "On our part, we are not unaware of our crucial role in the economic development of the country particularly in a democracy. We therefore call on government at all levels to give necessary support to the organised private sector, not only to create a robust economic base but fight social ills through the creation of employment for the large number of unemployed in our society".

He said the chamber was out to make the state economic environment better, stressing the need for better technical and vocational studies for required manpower in the members businesses.

Adediji therefore urged the members of the chamber to take the advantage of the benefits of the KWACCIMA membership and joined the chamber in the bid to develop the economic base of Kwara state.
